A tragic accident took place just last night, Thursday April 10, 2014, in Northern California. The result of this accident was the loss of life of 10 individuals, many of which were young high school students.
The accident involved a Fedex big rig and a tour bus that was filled with high school students and chaperones. According to reports, the accident happened just less than 100 miles North of Sacramento, CA. The fatalities, as confirmed by a CHP spokeswoman, were 5 students 4 chaperones, the tour bus driver and the driver of the Fedex truck. In addition to these tragic fatalities, more than 30 people were injured as a result of the crash, air and land ambulances were used to transport the injured to hospitals in the area, with a variety of injuries.
According to the CHP spokeswoman, Tracy Hoover, the Fedex driver lost control of the truck, jumped the divider on the I-5, side-swiped a car and crashed head on into the bus.
The tour bus was en route to Humboldt State University, bringing prospective college students to visit the campus as part of a program that encourages students that are first generation and low income to seek higher education.
